This 1968 Porsche 912 coupe is said to have been purchased new from Niello Porsche of Sacramento, California by the seller’s father and remained in the family since that time. Finished in white over black, the car is powered by a 1.6L flat-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle, and equipment includes chrome-finished 15″ wheels, three-point front seatbelts, a Blaupunkt push-button radio, and a rear speaker. Work performed since 2020 is said to have included replacement of the carburetors, fuel pump, battery, and tires.
The Karmann-built coupe was originally ordered in Light Ivory (6804), and the seller states that the car was refinished with Glasurit paint in 1996. Features include front vent windows, pop-out rear quarter windows, H4 headlight inserts, a driver-side mirror, bright-finished trim, and a single-outlet exhaust. Corrosion is present near the windshield on the top of the passenger-side fender, as is overspray on the windshield cowl seals. The front bumper is misaligned, and the aforementioned imperfections are present.
Chrome-finished 15″ steel wheels wear Porsche-branded hubcaps and are mounted with 165SR15 Michelin XZX tires that are said to have been replaced in 2020. Four-wheel disc brakes were standard equipment on the 912.
Black-upholstered seats are complemented by matching door panels and brushed dashboard trim. Interior amenities include a heater, three-point seatbelts, a locking glove compartment, and a Blaupunkt push-button AM/FM radio with a speaker mounted in the package shelf. A split is noted on the driver-side seat cushion, as are cracks and warpage on the dash pad and a sagging side pocket on the driver’s door panel.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation that includes a central 7k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer indicates 24k miles, and true mileage is unknown.
The air-cooled 1.6-liter flat-four breathes through dual Weber carburetors with chrome air cleaners and was factory rated at 102 horsepower and 90 lb-ft of torque. Power is distributed to the rear wheels through an optional five-speed manual transaxle. Work since 2020 is said to have included installation of the Weber carburetors and replacement of the fuel pump and the battery.
The car is aLompanied by removed Solex carburetors, intake manifolds, and air cleaners.
