This 1965 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 was acquired in 2012 by the seller, who subsequently completed an eight-year refurbishment. This 1965 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 was acquired in 2012 by the seller, who subsequently completed an eight-year refurbishment. The body was removed from the frame and refinished in Seminole Red with a white Shell Ivory roof, the chassis was repainted in black, the seats were reupholstered with coral-colored vinyl, and suspension, exhaust, and braking components were replaced. Power is provided by a replacement 3.9-liter inline-six paired with a three-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Additional equipment includes black 15″ steel wheels with chrome hubcaps, a folding front windshield, a PTO winch, and inward-facing rear jump seats.
The body was separated from the frame and metalwork was completed to address corrosion and dents before a repaint in Seminole Red with a white Shell Ivory roof. The seller states that the rear sill, rear bed section, quarter panels, and fender wells were replaced prior to the repaint, and additional work included replacing the windshield, seals, and front and rear bumpers. Features include a PTO winch fitted to the front bumper, a single driver-side mirror, and a rear-mounted spare tire.
Black-painted 15″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are wrapped in 31×10.5″ BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires. The truck is equipped with manually-locking front hubs, and the suspension was lifted 2.5″ with Old Man Emu components during the refurbishment. Additional refurbishment work reportedly included rebuilding the wheel cylinders and front axle with new seals and bearings as well as replacing the shocks, springs, brake lines, brake shoes, brake master cylinder, and parking brake cable.
The cabin features paint-matched sheet metal as well as front bucket seats and rear jump seats that were refurbished with replacement seat foam and coral-colored vinyl upholstery. The headliner was replaced under current ownership and shows wrinkling in the corners. The seller notes that one of the horns is missing, though its wiring remains in place.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 100-mph speedometer as well as gauges for fuel level, temperature, oil pressure, and amperage.
The 3.9-liter inline-six is said to have been sourced from a 1968 model and installed under previous ownership. Work performed under current ownership has included replacing the engine mounts, belts, hoses, and the cooling fan blade.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a three-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Refurbishment work completed by the current owner reportedly included applying a black undercoating to the frame and replacing the transmission mounts, exhaust system, clutch, clutch master and slave cylinders, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and pilot bushing. A spot of corrosion is noted on the side of the rear frame rail.
