This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS was delivered new to Bob Frahm Chevrolet of Albion, Michigan and reportedly remained with its original owner before being acquired by the seller in 2013 following approximately 35 years in storage. A subsequent rotisserie refurbishment was carried out, and work included a repaint in Dark Gold with black stripes and a replacement black vinyl roof, along with overhauls of the numbers-matching 396ci V8 and four-speed manual transmission. The interior was refreshed with tan vinyl upholstery, and additional equipment includes 14″ styled-steel wheels, front disc brakes, a cowl-induction hood, a Muncie shifter, and a push-button radio.
Finished from the factory in Dark Gold (58), the body was removed from the frame, mounted to a rotisserie, sandblasted, and repainted following bodywork on the hood, front fenders, driver’s door, and in the trunk. New skins were attached to the quarter panels, and a replacement black vinyl roof was also installed. Additional features include black hood and decklid stripes, a cowl-induction hood with pins, “SS” badging, and chrome bumpers.
14″ SS wheels are mounted with G70 Firestone Wide Oval tires, and the brake system features power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The car came from the factory with the F41 performance suspension package, which added heavy-duty coil springs, front and rear sway bars, and boxed rear lower control arms. The suspension and brakes were refreshed during current ownership, including a replacement rear sway bar, rear upper control arm bushings, wheel bearing seals, brake lines, and backing plates.
The seats were re-covered in tan vinyl, and additional work included the installation of a replacement headliner, carpets, sound deadening insulation, arm rest pads, and door panels. Additional features include a Muncie shifter, SS-script floor mats, a push-button radio, and three-point seatbelts for the front passengers.
A two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 55k miles.
The 396ci V8 was rebuilt and bored .030″ over in 2013, and additional work included polishing the crankshaft, refurbishing the connecting rods, and resurfacing the exhaust manifolds. Silv-O-Lite pistons and Moly piston rings were installed, along with a replacement oil pump, bearings, fuel lines, and engine mounts. The seller states that the carburetor and distributor were also overhauled and the dual exhaust system refreshed. An oil change was performed in the fall of 2020.
Power is sent to the wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a 3.31:1 rear end, both of which are said to have been overhauled during current ownership.
