This 1970 Mercury Cougar was acquired by the seller in 1985 and underwent a refurbishment and modifications at Kreations Autobody of Rio Dell, California, from 2008 to 2010. The car was refinished in red over a black interior and repowered with a fuel-injected Roush 427 IR V8 crate engine paired with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. This 1970 Mercury Cougar was acquired by the seller in 1985 and underwent a refurbishment and modifications at Kreations Autobody of Rio Dell, California, from 2008 to 2010. The car was refinished in red over a black interior and repowered with a fuel-injected Roush 427 IR V8 crate engine paired with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. Additional modifications include tubular front suspension, a triangulated four-bar rear end, adjustable coilovers, Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, staggered 18″ alloy wheels, a 3.73:1 rear end with a Detroit Locker, a Vintage Air system, and an aftermarket stereo.
The car was refinished in Lexus Matador Red Mica with satin black stripes as part of the 2008 work according to the seller, who also states all glass was replaced. Additional details include a trunk lid wing, a front lip spoiler, chrome bumpers, a hood scoop, and body-colored mirrors as well as the absence of windshield wipers. Paint chips on the front fenders are noted by the seller, and the removed wiper arms are included in the sale.
Staggered-width 18″ Billet Specialties wheels with polished lips wear Goodyear Eagle F1 tires measuring 245/35 up front and 295/35 in the rear, where the wheel wells were mini-tubbed to accommodate them. Global West tubular front suspension and an Art Morrison triangulated four-bar rear end were fitted along with adjustable coilovers at all four corners. Wilwood disc brakes feature slotted and cross-drilled rotors with six-piston calipers up front and four-piston versions in the rear. A rack-and-pinion steering setup was also installed.
The interior was retrimmed in black leather with a matching dash, door panels, and carpets. Lap belts are provided for the front and rear seats. An air conditioning system from Vintage Air was fitted along with Wilwood pedals, a center console, and an Alpine stereo receiver driving aftermarket speakers and subwoofers. Sound deadening material was reportedly added to the cabin during the refurbishment.
A leather-wrapped billet steering wheel frames AutoMeter gauges with carbon fiber faces including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer in addition to readouts for fuel level, oil pressure, water temperature, and voltage. The digital odometer shows 2,100 miles since the project was completed. Total chassis mileage is unknown.
The 427ci Roush crate engine features an iron block, forged pistons, H-beam connecting rods, aluminum cylinder heads, and an electronic fuel injection system with eight intake stacks. Manufacturer output ratings were 560 horsepower and 540 lb-ft of torque when new. Billet hood hinges and export braces from Ringbrothers have been fitted.
