This 1951 Lincoln Cosmopolitan convertible is finished in maroon over a burgundy and tan interior and powered by a 337ci V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include an aluminum radiator, a push-button radio, leather bench seats, spot lights, rear fender skirts, and 15″ steel wheels with chrome covers. A refurbishment carried out in 2007 included a repaint, an overhauled interior, and a rebuilt engine and transmission. Work has since included refreshing the cooling system and installing a replacement soft top, along with a tune-up in 2020.
The body was stripped to bare metal and repainted in its current shade of maroon by Darien Auto Body of Darien, Connecticut following replacement of an inner rocker in 2007. The brightwork has since been re-chromed, and a replacement soft top and windshield installed. Exterior features include an automatic antenna, a chrome hood ornament and bumpers, factory “frenched” headlamps, dual spot lights, side mirrors, and rear fender skirts.
Black-painted 15″ steel wheels feature chrome covers and are mounted with Remington Cushion-Aire whitewall tires. A spare is housed in the trunk.
The leather bench seats and door panels were re-dyed in the two-tone scheme of burgundy and tan in 2011. Replacement carpeting and window cylinders were fitted at that time, and interior features include an analog clock, a push-button radio, floor mats, and lap belts for the front occupants.
A three-spoke steering wheel frames a horizontal-sweep 110-mph speedometer that was refurbished in 2011. The five-digit odometer shows 51k miles.
The 337ci Flathead V8 was rebuilt and bored .060″ over by Round Hill Service Station of Greenwich, Connecticut in 2007. Work performed at that time included a valve job, a resurfaced block, a rebuilt carburetor, a reground crankshaft and camshaft, and the installation of replacement pistons, lifters, rods, rings, and bearings. Service performed in 2015 included rebuilt water pumps and the installation of an aluminum radiator and a new thermostat and hoses. A tune-up was conducted in 2020.
The four-speed Hydramatic automatic transmission was rebuilt in 2007 with a rebalanced flywheel and replacement transmission mounts and u-joints.
