This 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250SL California Coupe was delivered new in Dark Red over Caviar and the exterior was refinished under previous ownership approximately 15 years ago. The seller acquired the car in 2008 and replaced the peppered gray carpeting in the dark grey interior, and power comes from a numbers-matching 2.5L M129 inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Other equipment includes a removable hardtop, 14″ wheels with Mercedes-logo hubcaps, a Becker Europa radio, a VDO/Kienzle clock, and a rear bench seat. The seller has added approximately 10k miles to the car, and service in April 2021 included fluid changes, resealing the front of the engine, painting the brake calipers, and also replacing the front shocks, sway-bar bushings, steering coupler, water pump, and engine mounts.
California Coupes received a rear bench seat in lieu of a soft convertible top. This example was delivered new in Dark Red (542) and was refinished in approximately 2005 under previous ownership and features a removable matching hardtop.
Body-matching 14″ steel wheels wear trim rings as well as hubcaps and were mounted with 195/75 Hankook Optimo H724 tires in 2020. Service in April 2021 included painting the brake calipers and replacing the front shocks, sway-bar bushings, and a steering coupler.
Caviar MB-Tex upholstery covers the front bucket seats and rear bench, and the seller states that the replacement peppered black square-weave carpeting was sourced from Germany. A Becker Europa AM/FM radio is mounted in the dashboard alongside a VDO/Kienzle clock. The shifter bushings were replaced in April 2021.
A two-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, three vertical auxiliary gauges, and warning lamps. The five-digit odometer shows just under 2k miles, and the seller has added approximately 10k over the past 13 years. The odometer has rolled over, and true mileage is unknown.
The 2.5-liter M129 inline-six utilizes Bosch fuel injection and was rated at 170 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque when new. Service totaling $7,503 in April 2021 at Ditmire Motorworks Incorporated of Absecon, New Jersey included changing the oil, transmission fluid, and differential fluid as well as resealing the front of the engine and replacing various gaskets, the water pump, and engine mounts.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
