This 1961 Pontiac Catalina convertible was purchased by the seller in January 1997 and has since undergone a refurbishment featuring the installation of a 389ci V8 engine with Tri-Power induction through three two-barrel Rochester carburetors. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed automatic transmission, and additional modifications include a repaint in light blue, 14″ eight-lug wheels with finned drum brakes, updates to the blue interior, and more as described below. Work conducted in preparation for the sale included an oil change, carburetor tune, and replacement of the tires.
Styling updates incorporated on the Catalina for the 1961 model year included a squared-0ff bodylines and a return to the twin-grille front end. The body on this example was refinished in its current shade of light blue during the refurbishment, and features include a power-operated blue convertible top, dual mirrors, and Catalina lettering mounted ahead of the side spear trim.
Eight-lug 14″ wheels wear chrome beauty rings and center caps as well as 215/70 Cooper Cobra tires fitted in July 2021. Braking is handled by finned aluminum drums at all four corners.
The interior is equipped with components sourced from a 1962 Grand Prix, and features a blue color scheme for the upholstery, carpet, and trim. Amenities include air conditioning, a Wonderbar AM radio, and a center console topped with a Pontiac-branded tachometer.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph sweep speedometer and auxiliary gauges mounted below the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 35k.
The 389ci V8 is equipped with a Tri-Power intake manifold topped by a trio of two-barrel Rochester carburetors. Further additions by the seller include an aluminum radiator, a custom fuel rail, and Erson valve covers. An oil change and adjustment of the center carburetor was completed in July 2021.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a replacement four-speed automatic transmission.
Items accompanying the sale include a spare rear-view mirror and manufacturer’s literature.
