This 1961 Ford Galaxie Sunliner was first sold at Emmaus Ford of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and was purchased by the seller from its reported second owner in November 1993. A subsequent refurbishment was performed, with work including body and frame repairs, refinishing the exterior in black, a refresh of the red and white vinyl interior, and rebuilds of the 352ci V8 and Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. The body was refinished in its factory color of Raven Black (A) during the refurbishment according to the seller, who notes rust remediation was performed on the frame and rear panels. Exterior features include chrome bumpers, polished bodyside trim, Sunliner badging, and a white convertible top, the latter of which is protected by a red boot cover when lowered.
Black-painted 14″ steel wheels wear full wheel covers and are mounted with Coker Classic whitewall tires, and a matching spare is located in the trunk. The braking system was overhauled during the refurbishment.
The interior is trimmed in red and white vinyl upholstery (95) with a matching dashboard fascia and padded top. Standard equipment on the Sunliner includes power steering, and additions include cruise control, a supplemental coolant temperature gauge, and a vintage-style AM/FM radio housed within the factory location.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames instrumentation including a horizontal-sweep speedometer. The five-digit odometer is believed to have rolled over and reads approximately 65k miles; actual chassis mileage is unknown.
The X-code 352ci ‘Thunderbird Special’ V8 has been fitted with a four-barrel carburetor and an electronic ignition module, and power is sent to the rear wheels through a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. The engine and transmission were rebuilt in July 1997, and the car was most recently serviced with an oil change in February 2021.
The October 1961 sales invoice shows a total price of $3,681.85, and the order form shows original equipment. Other materials accompanying the car include a window sticker, manuals, and service records as well as a seller-supply summary.
