This 1988 Avanti coupe is number 2 of 5 Limited Edition examples produced. The car was acquired in 2007 by the seller, who commissioned the installation of a fuel-injected 502ci V8 and a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission. The exterior has been refinished in white over black leather, and features include a limited-slip differential, 17″ Halibrand-style wheels, a black front air dam, fog lights, front disc brakes, wood interior trim, air conditioning, and a Bluetooth stereo.
The fiberglass body has been refinished in white under current ownership and features a black front air dam with fog lights. The bulbs for the turn signals, backup lights, and brake lights were replaced in mid-2021, and their grounding wires were repaired.
Halibrand-style 17″ wheels utilize a five-lug pattern and wear three-ear spinner caps. Grip is provided via 245/45 Sceptor G/P326R front tires and 255/50 Kumho Ecsta ASX rear tires. A brake-vacuum canister was added in early 2021, and the front axle is equipped with disc brakes.
The interior features black leather upholstery on the seating surfaces and dashboard, and the driver seat shows signs of use. Wood trim accents the console, center stack, gauge surround, and rear panels. The cabin is equipped with air conditioning, and a Sony CD player with Bluetooth connectivity has been added along with a microphone on the steering column.
A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Avanti-branded instrumentation that includes a 7k-rpm tachometer and a 160-mph speedometer. An AEM air/fuel meter has been added to complement the auxiliary gauges, some of which exhibit aging. Over the past 14 years the seller has added approximately 3k of the 56k miles indicated on the five-digit odometer. True mileage is unknown.
The car bears a weathered tag on its dashboard indicating that it is number two of five Limited Edition examples produced. A door-jamb sticker indicates that the car was manufactured by the New Avanti Motor Corporation of Youngstown, Ohio in July 1988.
The fuel-injected 502ci V8 utilizes a GM-branded Ram Jet intake manifold as well as stylized 502/Chevrolet valve covers.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission, which the seller states was installed along with the engine. The limited-slip rear differential has a final-drive ratio of 3.32:1.
