This 1992 Ford Mustang LX SSP notchback was initially used by the Michigan State Police (MSP) and assigned to the Grand Haven post in west Michigan until its decommissioning in 1995. The car is one of a reported 34 total Special Service Package Mustangs used by the Michigan State Police as pursuit vehicles beginning in 1989—and one of 20 added to the force in 1992. Powered by a fuel-injected 302ci V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, the vehicle is finished in MSP-specific blue over a gray cloth interior. Additional equipment includes 15″ wheels, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, a stainless-steel Ford cat-back exhaust system, and an aftermarket AM/FM/CD player. The seller acquired the car in 2005 and has added less than 3k of its indicated 53k miles.
The car is finished in Michigan State Police–specific Blue and features black body-side moldings, black sideview mirrors, black window surrounds, and dual exhaust tips. The car underwent repair after its decommissioning to fill and repaint the mounting areas that previously held the police-spec hood light, spotlights, rear antenna, and door shields.
Silver-finished 15″ wheels are mounted with Goodyear Eagle GT white-letter tires, and the car is equipped with front disc and rear drum brakes.
The cabin features seating upholstered in two-tone gray cloth with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Additional features include power windows, power door locks, air conditioning, a locking glovebox, an aftermarket AM/FM/CD stereo, and a relocated trunk-release button.
A four-spoke steering wheel frames a “Certified Calibration” 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 53k miles.
The 302ci V8 was rated at 225 horsepower and came fitted with SSP-specific features including an engine-oil cooler, a transmission-fluid cooler, a 130-amp alternator, silicone hoses, and Police Interceptor–branded valve covers. The oil was changed in early 2021.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission with an overdrive top gear. The car is equipped with a stainless-steel Ford Motorsport cat-back exhaust that was installed in 2005 by Master Muffler of Ludington, Michigan. Ziebart rust protection was applied in July 1996, per an included receipt.
A set of MSP door shields, a Kustom Signals radar unit, a Federal Signal siren, spotlights, strobe lamps, and a State Police license plate from the Grand Haven post are included in the sale.
