This 1959 MGA 1500 roadster was acquired by the current owner approximately 10 years ago, prior to which it underwent a refurbishment that included a repaint in black and a refresh of the red vinyl interior. Work also involved rebuilding the dual SU carburetors as well as replacing the soft top, the tires, the windshield, the water pump, the fuel pump, and the distributor. Power is supplied by a 1.5-liter inline-four mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. The spark plugs were replaced and the oil changed in preparation for the sale.
The body is said to have been stripped and the rocker panels replaced prior to a two-stage repaint in black with three coats of clear. Features include a replacement black soft top, chrome bumpers with guards, chrome hood vents, and a chrome MG-branded fishtail exhaust finisher. The windshield and the wipers are said to have been replaced.
Wire-spoke 15″ wheels are painted silver and fitted with chrome two-eared knock-off nuts and GT Radial Wingro whitewall tires installed during the refurbishment. Brakes consisting of 10″ drums all around are said to have been rebuilt around the same time.
The interior has been reupholstered in white-piped red vinyl with a matching trim rail that encircles the cockpit, and amenities include a heater/defroster. The door panels and the carpeting are replacements, as is the trunk liner.
The banjo-style Brooklands steering wheel is a replacement component that fronts a body-color metal dash with Jaeger instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 68k miles.
The 15GB 1.5-liter inline-four came equipped with twin SU H4 carburetors and was rated at 72 horsepower and 77 lb-ft of torque when new. Work performed during the refurbishment reportedly included rebuilding the carburetors and replacing the water pump, the fuel pump, the ignition cables, and the distributor. Service in 2020 is said to have included replacing the spark plugs and changing the oil.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
