This 1969 Lotus Elan +2 was built on November 20, 1969 and originally delivered to Canada, where it was acquired by the seller in 2013 and subsequently brought to California. Finished in red with a black vinyl roof over a black interior, the car is powered by a 1.6L twin-cam inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include electronic ignition, pop-up headlamps, disc brakes, and 13″ steel wheels. The car reportedly spent around 20 years in storage prior to the seller’s acquisition, and work has since included an overhaul of the brake system, a rebuilt fuel pump and dual Weber carburetors, and a replacement clutch release cylinder, ignition coil, rotoflex couplings, and rear shocks.
Finished from the factory in Carnival Red (L05), the fiberglass body was repainted during prior ownership. A Vitaloni-style mirror is affixed to the driver-side fender, and a replacement windshield and weatherstripping have been fitted. The rear of the car was reportedly repaired following a collision some time ago, and the seller notes fiberglass repairs to the driver-side fender and door hinge.
Silver 13″ steel wheels are fitted with polished trim rings and mounted with older 185/70 Michelin tires. The brakes have reportedly been overhauled with a rebuilt master cylinder along with replacement calipers, pads, rotors, and emergency brake pads. The rear shocks and wishbone bushings have been replaced, while older Koni shocks are fitted up front.
The front seats are trimmed in black vinyl, and matching upholstery extends to the console armrest, rear seats, and door panels. The push-button AM/FM radio is inoperable, and the seat belt retractors and electric window lifters are slow to operate per the seller.
A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer indicates 78k miles.
The 1.6-liter DOHC inline-four features electronic ignition and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Work performed during current ownership is said to include rebuilds of the fuel pump and dual Weber carburetors, a cleaned and resealed fuel tank, and a replacement clutch release cylinder, ignition coil, and rotoflex couplings.
