This 1989 Chevrolet Corvette coupe was ordered new through Malcolm Konner Chevrolet of Paramus, New Jersey, and subsequently shipped to Callaway Engineering in Connecticut, where it was modified with a Callaway Twin Turbo package for its 5.7-liter V8. The car is finished in Dark Red Metallic over black leather, and equipment includes a six-speed manual transmission, limited-slip differential, the Z51 Performance Handling Package, Selective Ride Control, 17″ Dymag wheels, a removable roof panel, power windows, automatic climate control, and a factory Delco-Bose audio system. The seller acquired the car in 2018, and subsequent service reportedly included rebuilding the turbochargers and replacement of the radiator, tires, shocks, and intake components.
The fiberglass body is finished in Dark Red Metallic and features a removable roof panel, pop-up headlights, integrated fog lights, rock guards, and Callaway ‘Megaphone’ exhaust tips.
Callaway-branded 17″ magnesium wheels from Dymag feature locking Corvette center caps and wear Toyo Proxes R888 tires that were mounted in July 2019. The car is equipped with the Z51 Performance Handling Package and the FX3 Selective Ride Control package. Replacement shock absorbers were reportedly installed during current ownership.
The cabin features optional power-adjustable seats upholstered in black leather along with matching door panels and carpets. Amenities include automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows, and a factory cassette stereo with Delco-Bose audio.
A commemorative plaque mounted on the center console indicates that this example is the twenty-first 1989 Corvette modified by Callaway Engineering.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel sits ahead of factory digital instrumentation and a Callaway boost gauge mounted in the center stack. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows under 11k miles.
Modifications performed by Callaway Engineering to the 5.7-liter L98 V8 included the addition of two turbochargers and intercoolers along with strengthened internal components, and it was rated at 382 horsepower and 562 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller states that service in 2019 included rebuilding the turbochargers, replacement of ignition components and intake gaskets, and installation of an aluminum radiator and a Callaway ‘Wonder Bar’ intake system. The removed engine components are said to be included, and an oil change was performed in August 2021.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The window sticker lists factory colors, equipment, and a total vehicle price of $37,416. Additional Callaway paperwork will accompany the car along with a build sheet copy, manufacturer’s literature, and a Callaway Certificate of Authenticity.
