This 1978 Ferrari 308 GT4 previously spent time in Florida and was purchased by the family of the current owner in 2013. The car is finished in silver over blue leather upholstery, and power comes from a mid-mounted 2.9-liter DOHC V8 mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. Features include quad Weber carburetors, four-wheel independent suspension, 14″ Cromodora alloy wheels, a sunroof, air conditioning, and power windows. Service performed under current ownership reportedly included paintwork, a replacement passenger door handle, and a 2021 engine rebuild.
The 308 GT4 was Ferrari’s first production car designed by Bertone and featured angular bodywork over a tubular chassis with a lengthened wheelbase that allowed for 2+2 seating. This example is said to have been in an accident resulting in damage around the passenger door under previous ownership. Repairs were performed under current ownership before a 2014 repaint in its current silver. Features include a vertical rear window, boomerang-shaped air intakes on the sail panels, a sunroof, pop-up headlights, US-spec bumpers, and Scuderia Ferrari fender decals. A replacement passenger door handle was installed in 2021.
The 14” Cromodora five-spoke alloy wheels feature prancing-horse center caps and are mounted with 205/70 Lexan LXTR-203 tires. The 308 GT4 features a four-wheel independent suspension system with coil springs over telescopic shock absorbers and anti-roll bars at the front and rear. Braking is handled by discs at all four corners.
Previously trimmed in red leather, the 2+2 cabin features seats that were reupholstered in blue leather under previous ownership. Equipment includes air conditioning, power windows, and front three-point seat belts.
The leather-wrapped MOMO Jackie Stewart steering wheel frames Veglia Borletti instrumentation including a 180-mph speedometer and a 10k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows under 57k miles.
The 2.9-liter Tipo F106AL was the first V8 offered in a production Ferrari and features an aluminum block and cylinders heads. Additional characteristics include a flat-plane crankshaft, dual overhead camshafts, quad Weber 40 DCNF carburetors, and dual distributors. The engine was rebuilt in 2021 by Alex Automotive Service of Glendale, California, with new piston rings, valve seats, guides, bearings, a timing belt, gaskets, and hoses.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle. The car is titled by its engine number.
