This 1991 BMW 318is was delivered new to Don Rasmussen Company of Portland, Oregon and was subsequently relocated to California, where it was acquired by the seller approximately five years ago. Finished in Alpine White over black vinyl upholstery, the car is powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transmission and equipped with air conditioning, a manual sunroof, an aftermarket stereo, front and rear spoilers, and 15″ basketweave wheels. Work during current ownership has included an overhaul of the suspension with Bilstein shocks, H&R springs, and Powerflex bushings, along with the installation of a Stromung cat-back exhaust and replacement of the transmission, catalytic converter, engine mounts, brake lines, and oil pan gaskets.
The car is finished in Alpine White II (218) and features front fog lamps, front and rear spoilers, and a manually-operated steel sunroof. A Euro-spec rear plate filler, front grilles, and bumper trim have been installed during current ownership.
The 15×7” “Euroweave” wheels are mounted with 205/55 Yokohama S.drive tires. H&R springs and Bilstein shocks were fitted during current ownership, along with Powerflex polyurethane subframe, front control arm, and rear trailing arm bushings. Additional work has included a brake fluid flush along with replacement of the brake lines and front suspension bearings, mounts, tie rods, and control arms.
The cabin features sport seats trimmed in black vinyl with perforated inserts and a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. An Alpine keyless entry system has been added, and additional features include air conditioning, power windows, and a replacement rear-view mirror with an integrated map light. An Alpine CD stereo with a USB input is wired to Diamond Audio front speakers, a trunk-mounted JL Audio subwoofer, and a bass controller located in the ashtray. The removed stock cassette stereo is included in the sale.
A four-spoke airbag steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer with an integrated economy gauge, and auxiliary displays for fuel level and coolant temperature. Work during current ownership has included refurbishment of the service interval board by Bavarian Restoration of San Pablo, California in late 2020 along with replacement of the odometer gears. The six-digit odometer reads just over 150k miles.
The 1.8-liter M42B18 inline-four has been fitted with a Mark D’Sylva performance ECU chip and features dual overhead camshafts along with four valves per cylinder. The cooling system was refreshed by Castro Motorsports of North Hollywood, California with a replacement radiator, hoses, water pump, and thermostat in 2017. The front crankshaft seal was replaced that same year, and additional work during current ownership has included replacement of the oil filter housing and seal, upper and lower oil pan gaskets, and engine mounts.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement five-speed manual transmission installed by Castro Motorsports in 2017. A replacement catalytic converter and Stromung exhaust system have also been fitted, and additional work has included replacement of the driveshaft support bearing, transmission mounts and seals, differential mount, and flex disc.
The window sticker shows initial delivery to Don Rasmussen Company of Portland, Oregon along with a total suggested price of $22,820.
