This 1970 MG MGB GT was acquired by the seller as a non-running project in October 2016 and subsequently fitted with a 3.5-liter Rover V8 paired with a T5 five-speed manual transmission. The car has been refinished in blue over black upholstery, and additional modifications include an upgraded radiator, ceramic-coated headers, an electric cooling fan, PerTronix electronic ignition, a later-style grille, a front spoiler, 15″ alloy wheels, and an AM/FM stereo with bluetooth.
Finished from the factory in Bronze Yellow, the car was disassembled and media-blasted prior to being refinished in blue under current ownership. Features include re-plated chrome bumpers, a top-hinged rear hatch, pop-out rear quarter windows, a later-style grille, a front spoiler, and halogen headlights with LED bulbs.
Gray 15″ alloy wheels feature silver lips and are mounted with 185/65 General Altimax RT 43 tires that show 2017 date codes. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums powered by a replacement master cylinder and brake lines. The seller states that the suspension has been fitted with poly bushings and refurbished rear dampers.
The interior features replacement high-back bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl with matching door panels and carpets. Amenities include a later-style dash pad, three-point front seat belts, a replacement headliner, a heated rear window, and an AM/FM stereo with Bluetooth connectivity.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel is said to have been sourced from a 1973 MG and fronts SpeedHut instrumentation including a 120-mph GPS speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. A volt meter is mounted in the center stack, and the digital odometer shows just under 1k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 3.5-liter SD1 Rover V8 was installed under current ownership and is fed via a Carter carburetor with an electric choke. Additional modifications include an upgraded radiator, a 70-amp alternator, an SU electronic fuel pump, ceramic-coated headers, a 2 1/2″ stainless-steel exhaust system, a high-torque starter, Pertronix electronic ignition, and an electric cooling fan.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a T5 five-speed manual transmission linked to a custom driveshaft. The clutch is equipped with a hydraulically-actuated throw-out bearing.
