This 1938 Buick 46S Sport Coupe was acquired by the current owner in 1968 and is powered by a 248ci Dynaflash straight-eight paired with a three-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in black over tan and equipped with 16″ steel wheels with whitewall tires, driving lights, rear jump seats, and an AM radio. This Special Sport Coupe is being offered on dealer consignment with service records, owner’s and shop manuals, a Buick-branded tire gauge and coveralls, trophies, and New York registration.
Finished from the factory in Rembrandt Black (515), the car is said to have undergone rust repair on the rear fenders and was partially repainted apart from the front fenders during current ownership. Yellow-tinted driving lights have been installed and brightwork includes a chrome grille, side vents, dual side mirrors, and bumpers with overriders. Black-painted steel 16″ wheels wear chrome Buick hubcaps and wide whitewall 6.50″ Firestone Deluxe Champion tires. A full-size spare is stored in the trunk.
The seats are finished in tan cloth with matching door panels and carpets. Lap belts have been added, and an analog clock and an AM radio are fitted in the dash. A set of fold-down “opera” seats are positioned behind the front split-bench. Noted issues include stains on the passenger side rear seat and headliner, wear on the dash and gauges, and a missing heater knob.
A banjo-style steering wheel with a full horn ring fronts instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer flanked by supplementary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 90k miles, approximately 20k of which were added by the seller over the last 53 years. True mileage is unknown.
The 248ci Dynaflash straight-eight was factory rated at 107 horsepower and features a single-barrel carburetor and an oil-bath air cleaner. The engine was reportedly overhauled in the early 2000s, and a push-button starter and a choke were added during current ownership.
Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission.
