This 1940 Ford coupe was refurbished and modified around a decade ago before being acquired by the seller’s father in 2017. Power comes from a 350ci Chevrolet V8 crate engine paired with a Turbo-Hydramatic three-speed automatic transmission and a Ford 9” rear axle with 2.79:1 gearing. The car has been repainted red over a tan interior, and additional equipment includes a Pioneer CD stereo, PerTronix electronic ignition, air conditioning, Mustang II independent front suspension, power windows, and opera-style rear seats.
The body was repainted its current shade of Chrysler Carmine Red around 10 years ago, rubber-coated running boards, and chrome beltline trim, bumpers, and side-view mirrors. Areas of pitting are evident in the brightwork, and other noted flaws include a gouge along the passenger-side door opening, a cracked rubber molding around the fuel filler, scratches around the body, a paint blemish at the front of the car, weak trunk lid struts, and a crack along the bottom of the trunk lid opening.
The 15” cream-colored steel wheels feature polished trim rings with Ford-branded hubcaps and are wrapped in BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tires. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted front discs with rear drums, and the car rides on Mustang II-spec independent front suspension with TCI front and rear sway bars along with front springs and dropped spindles from JW Rod Garage.
The cabin has been reupholstered in tan vinyl with fabric inserts and matching door panels and carpets. Amenities include a Pioneer CD stereo with a remote, rear opera-style jump seats, air conditioning that is set up for R134a refrigerant, lap belts for front oLupants, and power windows. An indentation is noted on the passenger-side door panel fabric and the carpets are said to be in need of cleaning.
A red two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a body-colored metal dashboard housing Classic Instruments gauges including a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary displays for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and voltage. The five-digit odometer shows just under 23k miles, around 500 of which have been added during current ownership, though total mileage is unknown.
The 350ci Chevrolet V8 crate engine features a four-bolt block and is fitted with an Edelbrock EPS intake manifold topped with a Holley 600-cfm carburetor. Additional features include PerTronix electronic ignition, a FlowKooler water pump, aftermarket radiator with an electric fan, and Tru-Ram exhaust manifolds. The seller states that an oil change was performed in December 2020.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Turbo-Hydramatic three-speed automatic transmission and a Ford 9” rear axle with 2.79:1 gearing.
