This 1946 Ford ½-ton pickup underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment circa 2006 and was acquired by the current owner in 2017. This 1946 Ford ½-ton pickup underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment circa 2006 and was acquired by the current owner in 2017. The body has been refinished in red over reupholstered tan vinyl and power is provided by a 239ci flathead V8 mated to a three-speed manual transmission, both of which are said to have been rebuilt. Modifications include front disc brakes, a four-barrel carburetor, a performance camshaft, an aluminum radiator, electronic ignition, headers, and dual exhaust with electronically-controlled cutouts. Service in fall 2020 reportedly included an oil change.
The body was refinished in red during the refurbishment. Exterior features include chrome bumpers, door-hinge-mounted side mirrors, a fresh-air cowl vent, a driver-side wiper, and running boards with a textured finish and step plates. The partial stake-side box encloses a 6½-foot bed with wood planks and metal cargo strips, and spray-on liner has been applied to the inside bed walls and tailgate.
Black-painted 16″ steel wheels are fitted with chrome hubcaps and trim rings and Bridgestone Ecopia EP02 tires showing 2008 date codes. A spare is mounted on the left. The front axle was reportedly rebuilt with replacement pins, bushings, and bearings, all four lever shocks were replaced, and the front brakes have been converted to discs.
The interior features a bench seat reupholstered in pleated tan vinyl with a matching headliner and carpeting, and a body-colored dashboard and doors.
The two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a billet aluminum insert with a 140-mph Dolphin speedometer and a matching quad gauge. A pair of auxiliary gauges are mounted on the bottom edge of the dash, and an 8k-rpm tachometer and turn signal switch are clamped to the steering column. The six-digit odometer indicates 4k miles, approximately 500 of which were added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 239ci flathead V8 is said to have been rebuilt during the refurbishment and modified with Offenhauser cylinder heads, a performance camshaft, a D.U.I. electronic ignition, an aluminum radiator, and a Holley four-barrel carburetor. Exhaust gases exit by way of Red’s Headers flowing into a dual exhaust equipped with electronically-controlled cutouts. The oil was changed within the past year, and the seller notes a drip at the drain plug.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a floor-shifted three-speed transmission that has reportedly been fitted with a heavy-duty clutch and pressure plate.
