This 1950 Dodge Power Wagon is a 4×4 pickup that was refinished in red and black under previous ownership and was acquired by the seller out of Vermont as an incomplete project in 2019. Subsequent work included overhauls of its 230ci flathead inline-six, carburetor, and drum brakes as well as its exhaust, ignition, and fuel systems. The truck features a two-speed transfer case, a wooden bed floor, 16″ steel wheels with military-style tires, a winch, clearance lights, a bench seat with new black and gray upholstery, and a spare tire.
The Power Wagon was based on the wartime Dodge WC truck, and was the first civilian 4×4 pickup produced for sale to the general public. This example was refinished in red with black fenders, running boards, and bumpers under previous ownership. Features include a winch, a split windshield, clearance and cowl lights, fender-mounted turn signals, aftermarket taillamps, and a wood bed floor with steel runners.
Red five-lug steel wheels are mounted with 9.00-16LT Denman NDT tires, and a spare is affixed to the right bed side. The front axles are equipped with Superwinch manually-locking hubs. Work in 2020 included overhauls of the brakes, steering knuckles, and wheel bearings as well as cleaning and refinishing a number of running gear components.
The cab houses a bench seat in gray cloth and black vinyl upholstery. Matching trim covers the ceiling, pillars, and sun visors. Black dimpled metal plates are bolted to the painted floors. The truck retains a six-volt electrical system.
A three-spoke steering wheel frames a round 80-mph speedometer flanked by rectangular gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 37k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 230ci T137 flathead inline-six drives the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case. The engine was overhauled by Dutcher Automotive Engineering of Greenfield, Massachusetts in January 2020. Other work included a carburetor rebuild and refreshment of the fuel system as well as replacement of the distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs, and muffler.
