This 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk was manufactured on June 4, 1957 and sold new at Plourde & Daigneault of Bennington, Vermont. The car is finished in metallic green with a white roof over a black interior, and power comes from a supercharged 289ci V8 paired with a column-shifted Borg-Warner T-85 three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes a 4.27:1 limited slip differential, dual exhaust system, tail fins, gold trim, and an engine-turned dash fascia. The car reportedly remained in the same family for approximately 55 years before being purchased in 2015 by the seller, who has since overhauled the engine, replaced the exhaust, and refreshed the brake system.
The car was reportedly the sole example finished from the factory in Slate Mist Metallic (5779) over Charcoal for the 1957 model year but was repainted a darker shade of metallic green with a white roof under prior ownership. Features include tail fins, gold script trim, wing windows, and a hood bulge to clear the factory-equipped supercharger. Rust repairs are said to have been performed on the left door sill under prior ownership, while the seller replaced both front floorpans.
Body-colored 15″ steel wheels wear polished covers and are wrapped in 215/75 Hankook Optimo H724 tires. The front brake cylinders and master cylinder were overhauled and the flexible brake lines were replaced.
The front and rear bench seats are upholstered in Charcoal Vinyl (5771) while the door panels are finished in tri-tone black, gray, and white. Amenities include a heater and a locking glovebox. The car was ordered without power steering or power brakes, and also without a radio.
A two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of an engine-turned dash fascia housing a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 77k miles, approximately 500 of which have been added by the seller, although total mileage is unknown.
The 289ci V8 is equipped with a McCulloch supercharger and was factory rated at 275 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted Borg Warner T-85 three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car came equipped from the factory with a limited-slip “Twin Traction” rear differential with 4.27:1 gears. A replacement 2-inch dual exhaust system was installed during current ownership.
Factory literature, prior registration cards, and production data compiled by the Studebaker National Museum are included in the sale.
