This 1960 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite has been fitted with a 1,275cc inline-four and a four-speed manual transmission from a later-model Austin-Healey and was reportedly refurbished by its previous owner. Finished in black over a red interior, the car is equipped with front disc brakes, a front-hinged hood, 13″ knock-off wire wheels, a heater, and lap belts. The car was acquired in February 2021 by the seller, and subsequent mechanical work included an engine-out service, rebuilt carburetors, a replacement water pump and fuel sending unit, and cleaning of the brake system.
The car was refinished in its current shade of black during previous ownership and is equipped with a black soft top, chrome rear bumperettes, and leather front clamshell straps. The hood has been adapted to a front-hinge setup, and a paint correction is said to have been performed recently.
Painted 13″ wire wheels with two-eared knock-off spinners are wrapped in 155R13 Continental Contact tires. Front disc brakes were installed during previous ownership, and the brake system was cleaned and repainted in 2021.
The seating surfaces are upholstered in red vinyl with white piping and the cabin features a matching dashboard, door panel inserts, and carpets. The wiper motor and pedal assembly were repaired and the turn signal flasher was replaced this year.
A two-spoke steering wheel frames a 100-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer indicates 17k miles.
The 1,275cc inline-four was reportedly sourced from a later model and is equipped with dual side-draft carburetors. The engine was removed and refinished, the carburetors and distributor were rebuilt, an oil pump cover and spin-on oil filter were installed, and the water pump, cooling fan, thermostat assembly, lower radiator hose, starter switch, and fuel sending unit were replaced in 2021.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a replacement four-speed manual transmission, which was recently disassembled, inspected, and refinished.
