Description
This 1961 Studebaker Champ is a 6E7 1/2-ton pickup that was purchased by the seller in 2012, and it was subsequently refurbished and modified. The exterior was refinished in red, the matching interior was reupholstered, and an overbored 259ci V8 was installed and mated to its overdrive-equipped three-speed manual transmission. This 1961 Studebaker Champ is a 6E7 1/2-ton pickup that was purchased by the seller in 2012, and it was subsequently refurbished and modified. The exterior was refinished in red, the matching interior was reupholstered, and an overbored 259ci V8 was installed and mated to its overdrive-equipped three-speed manual transmission. Additional modifications include replacement suspension components, a front disc-brake conversion, 15″ chrome-finished wheels, and more as detailed below.
The body was refinished in red by the seller, and chrome trim adorns the front bumper, grille, light surrounds, door handles, and windows. Equipment includes a sliding rear window and front vent windows, and a lockable fuel filler cap is located just behind the left door. The Spaceside box is protected by a spray-on bed liner, and the tailgate features white Studebaker lettering.
Chrome-finished 15″ wheels sourced from U.S. Wheel are mounted with 205/75 Kelly tires up front and 215/75 Goodyear tires out back. Per the seller, the steering box was rebuilt, the king pins were replaced, and an electric power-assisted kit was added, while the braking system features front discs sourced from Turner Brake along with a replacement master cylinder and Chevrolet-specification rear drums.
The interior features a bench reupholstered in red, matching door panel replacements, and dashboard pad upholstered in black. Additional features include a heater, sun visors, a Hurst shifter, and a lockable glovebox housing an aftermarket CD player.
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a combination gauge for coolant temperature and fuel level, and an aftermarket tachometer and gauges monitoring voltage and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 74k miles.
The replacement Studebaker 259ci V8 was modified by the seller with a 289ci-specification crankshaft, a .040″ overbore, replacement pistons, and a reground camshaft. The heads were also refreshed with replacement guides, seals, valves, springs, and hardened seats according to the seller, and additional modifications include chrome-finished valve covers, an Offenhauser intake, and an Edelbrock carburetor. An oil change was performed in 2021.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a floor-shifted three-speed manual transmission equipped with overdrive. The differential pinion seal has been replaced, and further updates include replacement shocks, springs, tie rods, and bushings.
