This 1965 Ford Mustang fastback was modified as a Shelby GT350R tribute under prior ownership. Refinished in blue with white stripes over a stripped interior with fixed-back bucket seats, the car is powered by a modified 347ci V8 paired with a four-speed Richmond manual transmission with straight-cut gears. Other equipment includes a 9″ rear axle, disc brakes, 15″ wheels, aftermarket suspension, side-exit exhaust, a roll cage, racing harnesses, a fire-suppression system, AutoMeter gauges, a vented rear window, and R-style bodywork. The seller purchased the car in 2016 and used it to win the MCSSC GT-1 class championship in 2019.
The car was delivered new in Silver Blue (Y) and has been refinished in blue with white stripes. The single-scoop hood, front apron, side scoops, and vented plexiglass rear window are intended to resemble those of period GT350R racing cars. The rear bumper has been removed, and the side-exit exhaust system terminates ahead of each rear wheel.
Black-finished 15″ five-spoke wheels are missing their center caps and are mounted with treaded 25.5×8.5″ Hoosier tires. Each corner is equipped with disc brakes, and the seller states that the brakes were serviced in preparation for the sale. A Borgeson steering box has been installed along with a KRC power-steering pump. The suspension has been lowered, aftermarket shocks installed, and the lower-control arms have been reinforced. Chassis bracing also has been installed.
Aluminum fixed-back bucket seats with black covers are paired with five-point G-Force Racing Gear harnesses for the driver and passenger. A multi-point roll cage has been welded to the car. A fire extinguisher is mounted to the transmission tunnel, and the car is equipped with a fire-suppression system. The glovebox door has been signed by Chuck Cantwell, an engineer on the Shelby GT350 project.
An OMP steering wheel is mounted on a quick-release hub. AutoMeter instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and six auxiliary gauges. The odometer shows 1,800 miles.
The trunk houses a 20-gallon Fuel Safe fuel cell.
The modified 347ci V8 is said to have been built with JE Pistons, Eagle connecting rods, an Eagle crank, and ARP hardware. Other features include an 850-cfm Holley carburetor, Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads, finned valve covers, an MSD ignition system, an Aviaid 12-quart oil pan, an Edelbrock water pump, and an aluminum radiator. The most recent service is said to have included changing the fluids. A reproduction Shelby tag has been added to the engine bay along with Shelby exterior badging.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed Richmond manual transmission with straight-cut “dog box” gears and a 9″ rear axle.
