This 1966 Buick Skylark Gran Sport is a red-over-white convertible powered by an MR-code 401ci Nailhead V8, which is equipped with dual four-barrel carburetors and paired with a Super Turbine 300 two-speed automatic transmission. Additional features include a ten-bolt limited-slip differential, a white soft top, an electronic ignition, Rallye-style wheels, tubular headers, a center console, and a Pioneer AM/FM radio. The car was assembled at GM’s Baltimore, Maryland facility and reportedly underwent a frame-off refurbishment during previous ownership, which included rebuilding the powertrain, repainting the exterior, and refreshing the two-tone interior. The selling dealer acquired the car in March 2021, and is said to have rebuilt the carburetors, performed an oil change, and replaced the fuel pump.
The body was originally Flame Red (R1) according to the trim tag, and was repainted at an unknown point under previous ownership according to the seller, who notes the frame was refinished separately. Exterior features include chrome bumpers, polished rocker-panel trim, VentiPort strips on the front fenders, Gran Sport badging, and a white convertible top, the latter of which contains punctures in the fabric as displayed in the gallery below. A color-coordinated boot cover and replacement convertible top fabric are included in the sale.
Rallye-style 14″ wheels are wrapped in 215/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. A matching spare and jacking equipment are stored in the trunk.
The car was delivered from the factory with Dove (193) upholstery, and the interior was retrimmed during prior ownership. Equipment includes manually operated windows, a Pioneer AM/FM radio, and a center console housing the two-speed shifter.
Instrumentation includes a sweeping 120-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and an analog clock. The five-digit odometer reads 20k miles.
The rebuilt 401ci Nailhead V8 is equipped with dual four-barrel carburetors and tubular headers, and power is sent to the rear wheels through a rebuilt Super Turbine 300 two-speed automatic transmission and a ten-bolt Positraction differential equipped with 2.93:1 gearing.
