This 1966 Volvo 1800S underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment in California in 2014 and was acquired by the seller in 2020. The car was repainted Formula Red and fitted with a rebuilt 2.0-liter B20 inline-four. Additional work during previous ownership included reupholstered black vinyl seats and red replacement carpeting, along with a resealed four-speed manual transmission and a replacement clutch, ring and pinion gears, shocks, exhaust system, and more.
Originally finished in Pearl White, the car was repainted in its current shade of Formula Red during the refurbishment in 2014. Chrome trim and rubber seals were reportedly replaced at that time, the headlight wiring was repaired, and electric horns were installed.
A set of 15″ steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and trim rings and are wrapped in 165/80 Nexen SB802 tires, which were mounted in June 2014. The brake booster was rebuilt and the master cylinder replaced at that time. The control arm bushings were also replaced while new shocks were installed in 2016.
The seating surfaces have been reupholstered in black vinyl with a matching dashboard and door panels contrasted by replacement red carpets. Three-point seat belts are fitted for the front oLupants. The wiring harness, heater controls, and blower motor were replaced while the heater vent door box was rebuilt.
A two-spoke steering wheel frames a 7k-rpm tachometer and a 120-mph speedometer. The five-digit mechanical odometer indicates 5k miles.
The factory B18 engine was replaced with a rebuilt 2.0-liter B20 inline-four during the refurbishment. The SU carburetors were also rebuilt at that time and the fuel tank, radiator, and heater core were cleaned.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The transmission was resealed and fitted with a replacement clutch kit and resurfaced flywheel, and replacement ring and pinion gears were also installed.
