This 1967 Amphicar Model 770 spent time in California and Illinois prior to its acquisition by the seller in 2006. The vehicle is finished in yellow over a gray and white vinyl interior and features navigational lighting, a marine horn, bumper/prop guards, and a bilge pump. Power is provided by a 1,147cc inline-four mated to a two-part manual gearbox delivering four speeds and reverse on land and forward and reverse gears on water. Service within the past two years is said to have included replacing the carburetor, the main fuel line, and the water pump, as well as performing a tune-up, refreshing the brakes, cleaning the fuel tank and the radiator, and changing the fluids.
The body was refinished in yellow under previous ownership and features Coast Guard registration numbers on the fenders, along with body-side moldings and rear fender-top fins with replacement bright trim. The driver-side inner and outer rocker panels and a portion of the floor pan beneath the driver seat are said to have been replaced, and the seller notes the presence of body filler throughout, including the fender wells and the lower doors. Convertible framework is present but the soft top is missing.
The front wheels act as rudders while the car is in the water, and the seller notes that the door seals leak, requiring use of the bilge pump. The exhaust exits through the rear body panel above the waterline, and optional rear bumper guards shield the dual propellers from running aground. Other features include navigational lights with a removable stern pole light and a hood-mounted marine horn that doubles as a vent for the 10-gallon fuel tank located in the front trunk.
Yellow-painted 13″ steel wheels are fitted with chrome Amphicar-branded hubcaps and Firestone Super Sports tires that display cracks. Braking is provided by four-wheel drums for which shoes, lines, and line-fitting seals reportedly were replaced in fall 2020.
A refresh of the interior in fall 2020 included reupholstering the bench seats in gray and white vinyl and installing matching replacement door panels. Black rubber mats cover the floor pans. A black boot cover is included, for which the seller notes misalignment of some snaps.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 90-mph MotoMeter speedometer that is joined on the black-painted dashboard by a clock, a combination fuel-level and engine-temperature gauge, a locking glovebox, and a radio. The five-digit odometer shows 7k miles, approximately 40 of which were added by the seller in 15 years; true mileage is unknown. The seller notes that accessories including the radio, the clock, the horn, and the trunk-compartment blower require service.
The rear-mounted 1,147cc inline-four is a Triumph-sourced Standard SC engine equipped with an aftermarket replacement carburetor from Gordon Imports of Santa Fe Springs, California. Service under current ownership reportedly included replacing the water pump and cooling hoses, the ignition, the spark plugs, the fuel pump, the fuel filter, and the main fuel line, along with removing and cleaning the radiator and the fuel tank and changing the oil.
A two-part Hermes four-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels and simultaneously or separately to the propellers through a two-speed with reverse and forward gears. The rubber water-seal axle boots have been replaced by the seller.
