This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette convertible was refurbished by a previous owner in New Jersey circa 2003, and work included a repaint in red, a rebuild of the 327ci L79 V8, and an interior refresh. Features include a four-speed manual transmission, black soft top, black vinyl hardtop, 15″ Rally-style wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, a Hurst shifter, and a Sony CD stereo. The seller acquired the car and relocated it to Maryland in May 2020 and subsequent maintenance included installing a PerTronix ignition and coil and replacing the rear main seal, the fuel pump harmonic balancer seal and sleeve, valve covers, heat riser valve, and valve covers.
The car left the factory finished in Silverstone Silver and was refinished in red under previous ownership. Features include a black soft top, pop-up headlights, chrome side mirrors and bumpers, polished rocker panel trim, and fender vents with inserts. A vinyl-trimmed removable hardtop is included in the sale, and the seller states the hardtop hardware was recently replaced. The left-front headlamp actuator was repaired and the vacuum relay valves were reportedly replaced in preparation for the sale.
Silver 15″ Rally-style wheels wear chrome center caps, trim rings, and 235/60 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel discs. The seller states that the calipers and pads were replaced under previous ownership.
The interior is trimmed in black vinyl and features a Hurst shifter and a Sony CD stereo.
The woodgrain steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and an analog clock. Auxiliary gauges are housed in the center stack. The ammeter is a replacement part, and the clock has been converted to a quartz movement. The five-digit odometer shows 87k miles.
The 327ci Turbo-Fire L79 V8 was factory rated at 350 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque. The engine was reportedly rebuilt with TRW pistons during previous ownership, and the following components are also said to have been replaced:
The engine is reportedly equipped with an Edelbrock high-rise intake manifold, Edelbrock carburetor, PerTronix electronic ignition, PerTronix ignition coil, and Dewitt’s aluminum radiator. Service since 2020 includes replacing the rear main seal, fuel pump harmonic balancer seal and sleeve, valve covers, and heat riser valve.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed manual transmission.
