This 1969 Buick GS 400 Stage 1 convertible is finished in blue over white upholstery and powered by a 400ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes a white soft top, Ram-Air induction, a “horseshoe” shifter, 14″ Rally wheels, and a factory AM radio. It was acquired by the seller in 2008 and subsequently underwent a mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment.
Approximately 1,176 GS 400 convertibles were produced for the 1969 model year, and the seller states that this is one of 212 that were equipped with the Stage 1 package. The body of this example was delivered from the factory in Twilight Blue (51), and it was repainted approximately ten years ago during a cosmetic refurbishment. The replacement power-operated white soft top is shown in operation in the video below. Equipment includes functional air intakes in the hood, chrome bumpers and trim, dual mirrors, and “GS 400” and “Stage 1” badging. Scratches are visible on the windshield.
Rally-style 14″ wheels wear Buick center caps and are wrapped in 215/70 Cordovan tires with raised white letters.
The cabin was also refurbished and features front bucket seats and a rear bench reupholstered in white vinyl, and the black carpets were replaced. Equipment includes a center console with a “horseshoe” shifter, an aftermarket tachometer, and a factory AM radio paired with a Sparkomatic FM tuner mounted under the dashboard.
The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a horizontal-sweep 120-mph speedometer and ancillary gauges. The five-digit odometer is believed to have rolled over and now shows 26k miles.
The 400ci V8 was bored .030 over approximately ten years ago, at which time the heads were rebuilt and a replacement camshaft, oil pump, timing chain, exhaust system, and bearings were installed. It is equipped with an optional Ram-Air intake and sends power to the rear wheels through a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and a ten-bolt Positraction differential equipped with 3.64:1 gearing.
