This 1970 Pontiac GTO convertible was repainted in its factory Cardinal Red during a 2014 refurbishment and is powered by a numbers-matching 400ci V8 paired with a Muncie four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black vinyl interior, a power-operated black soft top with matching boot, an Eaton type Positraction rear end, 14” Rally II wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, power steering, a hood-mounted tachometer, and a vintage-look AM/FM radio. Work completed under current ownership consisted of replacing the power steering pump, steering rack, and an oil change.
The trunk lid was replaced and the car was refinished in Cardinal Red as part of a 2014 refurbishment. Features include a power-operated black vinyl soft top, an Endura-style front bumper, GTO badging, a chrome rear bumper, a pair of hood-mounted air intakes, and a quad-exit exhaust.
The 14″ Rally II wheels wear polished trim rings and are wrapped in white-letter Firestone Wide Oval tires. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted front disc brakes with drums at the rear, and power-steering was equipped from the factory. The power-steering pump and steering box were replaced under current ownership, and a full-size spare is mounted in the trunk.
The front and rear bench seats were delivered from the factory in black vinyl and reupholstered in 2014. The car is equipped with matching black door panels, carpets, and a dashboard with a wood-grain insert. Features include a front seat folding armrest, lap belts for all occupants, red Pontiac-branded rubber mats, a remote-operated driver-side mirror, and a Pontiac branded push-button AM/FM radio.
The three-spoke steering wheel with Pontiac center emblem fronts a 140-mph speedometer and an analog clock. A reproduction 8k-rpm tachometer is fixed to the hood, and a trio of Bosch auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and battery voltage are mounted beneath the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 75k miles.
The numbers-matching 400ci V8 was rebuilt as part of the 2014 refurbishment and features a period Quadrajet carburetor along with a chrome air cleaner and valve covers. An oil and filter change was performed in preparation for sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through an M21 Muncie four-speed manual transmission and Eaton-style limited-slip differential.
A copy of the factory build sheet lists initial delivery to Jim Culligan Pontiac in Williamsville, New York, and displays options as well as a suggested retail price of $4,081.
