This 1971 Plymouth Duster began life as a six-cylinder coupe produced in Hamtramck, Michigan, and it was acquired by the seller in August 2013. The car was refurbished and modified by its previous owner in Colorado, and work is said to include refinishing the exterior in Plum Crazy, reupholstering the two-tone interior, and installation of a 440ci V8 paired with a TorqueFlite 727 automatic transmission. Additional modifications include 17″ wheels, interior updates, and front coilover suspension and Wilwood disc brakes.
Delivered new in In-Violet (FC7), the car was refinished in Plum Crazy during prior ownership according to the seller. Features include a matte hood and window surround treatment, chrome bumpers, white side stripes, and “440” graphics.
Staggered-width 17″ wheels feature a gray center finish and are fitted with Kumho Ecsta tires measuring 225/50 up front and 255/50 out back. Wilwood calipers are fitted up front along with QA1 coilover suspension components. The seller notes that the front wheels rub the wheel tie rods when the steering is at full lock.
Black vinyl upholstery with gray cloth inserts covers the dual bench seats. Additional modifications include a B&M shifter, an Alpine CD stereo, and an AutoMeter tachometer mounted behind the three-spoke steering wheel. The car is equipped with a fold-down front armrest as well as lap belts for the front and rear occupants.
Factory instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and readings for alternator charge, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows under 11k miles.
The 440ci V8 was installed during prior ownership and features an aluminum intake topped with an Edelbrock carburetor, an aluminum radiator, and polished exhaust headers connected to a dual exhaust system. An oil change was performed in 2020.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement TorqueFlite 727 three-speed automatic transmission and an 8.75″ Sure-Grip rear end equipped with 3:73:1 gearing.
The chassis number indicates that this Plymouth hardtop coupe originally left the factory in Hamtramck, Michigan with a 225ci inline-six engine under the hood.
