This 1971 Subaru 360 Deluxe sedan was reportedly sold new in Illinois and remained in the original owner’s family until 2005. This 1971 Subaru 360 Deluxe sedan was reportedly sold new in Illinois and remained in the original owner’s family until 2005. It was acquired as a project by the seller in 2018, and subsequent refurbishment work included a repaint in white, overhauling the brakes and fuel system, and mounting replacement tires. Power comes from a rear-mounted 356cc two-stroke twin paired with a four-speed manual transaxle, and equipment includes 10″ wheels, rear-hinged doors, fender-mounted mirrors, and an AM radio.
The car was previously finished in two-tone white and blue, and it was refinished in white following dent repairs under current ownership. Features include a fiberglass roof panel, rear-hinged doors, chrome bumpers, vent windows, fender-mounted mirrors, Subaru-branded mud flaps, and pop-out rear quarter windows.
Steel 10″ wheels wear reproduction chrome hubcaps and are wrapped in 145R-10 Camac BN 313 tires and tubes that were mounted under current ownership. A spare is mounted in the front trunk, and braking is accomplished with finned drums. The brake master cylinder and the wheel cylinders were overhauled and installed along with a replacement emergency brake cable and brake shoes according to the seller.
The cabin features front and rear bench seats trimmed in red vinyl with matching door panels and black carpets. Equipment includes a heater, passenger grab handle, lap belts, hand-crank windows, and a push-button AM radio.
A black two-spoke steering wheel frames an 80-mph speedometer and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 13k miles.
The rear-mounted, air-cooled 356cc two-stroke twin features a single carburetor and an oil-bath air cleaner. The carburetor, fuel tank, and oil pump were reportedly overhauled, and an inline fuel valve was installed under current ownership. Additional work is said to have included replacement of the oil reservoir, battery, spark plugs, and fuel filters and related lines. The carburetor was adjusted in June 2020.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle with a dogleg first gear. A replacement clutch cable was installed under current ownership.
