This 1972 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 4.5 has been refinished in beige over tan MB-Tex and is powered by a 4.5-liter V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes 14″ wheels with covers, power windows, an electric sunroof, a Becker radio, and R134a air conditioning. Under previous ownership the car was refinished, the interior was refreshed, and the tires, weatherstripping, gaskets and seals, and drivetrain mounts were replaced.
The car was delivered new in Light Beige (181) and was refinished under previous ownership. Other work reportedly included replacing the door seals and antenna. Black 14″ wheels with covers are mounted with 215/70 Milestar Touring SLE whitewall tires showing 2019 date codes, and the front shocks were replaced under current ownership.
The cabin is trimmed in tan MB-Tex with darker carpets, and amenities include power windows, an electric sunroof, and an air conditioning system that has been converted to R134a refrigerant. The dash pad has been replaced along with the wood trim, door panels, sunroof seal, and weatherstripping.
The two-spoke steering wheel shows some cracks and fronts a brown dashboard with wood trim. VDO instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a combination gauge, and an inoperable clock. The five-digit odometer shows 48k miles.
The 4.5-liter M117 V8 was factory-rated at 230 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. Service since August 2019 reportedly included replacement of the rear main seal, oil pan gasket, radiator, starter, A/C belt, and exhaust manifold gasket as well as the engine mounts, battery, filters, ignition components, and a power steering hose. A new hood pad has been installed, the valve covers have been repainted, and the fuel tank has been cleaned. Work in January 2021 consisted of adjusting the idle and replacing the spark plugs.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission that has been fitted with a replacement oil pump gasket, filter, and mounts.
