This 1973 BMW 2002 was acquired by the seller in Ontario, Canada, in 2015 after which it was refurbished and modified with an overbored 2.2-liter M10 inline-four and a five-speed manual transmission. The engine, suspension, and drivetrain were removed from the car and the subframes and trailing arms were powder coated in black. During reassembly Bilstein dampers were installed along with lowering springs, polyurethane bushings, Ireland Engineering sway bars, 15″ Rota wheels, a ceramic-coated step-style header, and a custom stainless-steel exhaust.
The car was repainted in silver under previous ownership and features chrome bumpers, bright grilles and window trim, round taillights with upgraded LED inserts, and dual exhaust outlets.
Silver-finished 15″ Rota alloy wheels wear 195/55 Dunlop Direzza DZ102 tires showing 2018 date codes. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes. The car’s suspension features powder-coated subframes and trailing arms as well as Bilstein Sport dampers, lowering springs, Ireland Engineering sway bars, and polyurethane bushings. Additional work during refurbishment included replacement of the track rod, tie rods, ball joints, front strut mounts, lower control arms, and wheel hubs and bearings, as well as fitting a polyurethane steering coupler and reinforcement of the motor mounts.
The cabin is upholstered in black vinyl with blue carpeting and door panels. Equipment includes later-model Recaro sport seats as well as a Pioneer CD stereo along with aftermarket speakers in the doors and underneath the rear bench.
A three-spoke steering wheel wears a BMW center cap and frames instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The inoperable five-digit odometer shows 65k miles.
The replacement M10 inline-four features dual Weber 45 sidedraft carburetors paired with an Ireland Engineering intake manifold and was reportedly overbored to 2.2-liters during refurbishment. Work is said to have included fitting an S14 crankshaft as well as replacement pistons, H-beam connecting rods, coated bearings, an Ireland Engineering 304 camshaft, heavy-duty valve springs and rocker arms, oil and water pumps, and a ceramic-coated step-style header paired with a custom stainless-steel exhaust. Additional equipment installed during refurbishment reportedly included an MSD/Petronix ignition system, an adjustable fuel-pressure regulator, an aluminum radiator, silicone hoses, as well as polyurethane engine mounts.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Getrag 245 five-speed manual transmission that has been fitted with a replacement clutch, lightened flywheel, and polyurethane mounts.
