This 1973 Lotus Elan +2 S130 was built in July 1972 and was sold by F.A. Kinsella Auto Shop of New Milford, Connecticut, in August 1973. The car is said to have remained with its original owner until 2006 and spent time in Illinois before it was acquired by the seller in 2019. It is finished in blue with a silver roof over black vinyl upholstery, and power comes from a 1,721cc twin-cam four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include dual Weber 40mm carburetors, an alloy radiator, Tony Thompson Racing shocks and billet rear axles, four-wheel disc brakes with stainless steel caliper pistons and an adjustable bias system, and pop-up headlights.
Delivered from the factory in Lagoon Blue with a silver metal flake roof, the fiberglass bodywork is said to have been repainted in its current blue and silver under previous ownership. Features include chrome bumpers, Lucas fog lights, pop-up headlights, Elan +2 and S130 badges, and a fender plaque commemorating Lotus’ world championships.
The 13″ wheels feature three-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with Vredestein Sprint tires. A spare steel wheel is fitted in the trunk. Tony Thompson Racing shocks and bushings are fitted at all four corners, and braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard rear units, stainless steel caliper pistons, and an adjustable bias system.
The 2+2 cabin features seats trimmed in black vinyl along with matching door panels and carpets. Features include three-point front seatbelts, a wood dash panel with a locking glovebox, and a heater.
The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, a clock, and additional auxiliary gauges that extend across the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows under 16k miles.
The 1,721cc twin-cam four was installed by PHB Racengines, Inc. of Wauconda, Illinois, in 2008, and features 10:1-compression pistons, a flowed cylinder head, and dual 40mm Weber carburetors. An alloy radiator and swirl pot are also fitted.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. Tony Thompson Racing billet rear axles were fitted under previous ownership along with a custom exhaust system.
A 1,600cc inline-four with twin Stromberg carburetors is included in the sale.
The Lotus Classic Certificate of Vehicle Provenance lists equipment and colors as well as a date of manufacture in July 1972.
