This 1978 Porsche 911SC Targa is powered by a 3.0-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and finished in steel blue with red stripes over a black interior with plaid seat inserts. Equipment includes a removable targa top, auxiliary driving lights, 16″ Fuchs wheels, a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel, and a Sony stereo with a CD changer. The car was first sold in March 1978 in Braunschweig, Germany, and the seller acquired it from a dealer in Miami in 2014. Subsequent service included overhauling the engine and air-conditioning system in addition to replacing the clutch, wheel bearings, ball joints, and tie rods.
The 911 Super Carrera succeeded both the 911 and the Carrera, adopting the wider body previously found on the latter. This example has been refinished in steel blue with off-centered red and black vinyl stripes as well as white #78 meatballs on the hood and trunk. Features include a removable rooftop panel, a wrap-around rear window, body-colored side mirrors, yellow headlamp lenses, auxiliary driving lights mounted on the front bumper, and a wraparound taillight strip with Porsche lettering. The rubber seals around the doors and targa top are worn.
Fuchs 16″ wheels are finished in black with polished outer rims and wear ZR-rated 205/55 front and 225/50 rear Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires showing 2014 date codes. Service in January 2015 included replacing the wheel bearings, ball joints, and tie rod assemblies, as well as performing an alignment. A tool kit and compact spare are located in the trunk.
The front seats have been reupholstered in black vinyl with red, black, and white plaid inserts. Equipment includes manually-operated windows, a locking glovebox, an analog clock, a rear window defroster, a USB charging cable, and a Sony AM/FM cassette stereo with a trunk-mounted CD changer.
A 13″ wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel fronts a suite of VDO instrumentation that includes a 150-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,200-rpm redline, as well as secondary gauges displaying fuel level, oil temperature, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 114k miles.
The 3.0-liter flat-six features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and produced 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque when new. Service carried out in 2015 by NolaSport of New Orleans, Louisiana included overhauling the engine, repairing the air conditioning system, performing a valve adjustment, and replacing the alternator and distributor.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle.
German-language owner’s literature as well as maintenance stamps from 1978 to 1984 are included in the sale, along with a stock steering wheel and service records from current ownership.
