This 1979 MGB Roadster was acquired as a modified project by the seller in 2017 and has since received a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment. Power is supplied by a replacement 215ci V8 that was rebuilt and fitted with an Edelbrock carburetor, a Crower camshaft, Summit Racing ignition, a PerTronix electronic distributor, and an aftermarket exhaust system. The Tremec T5 five-speed manual transmission was also refreshed, and additional work included overhauls of the suspension and brakes along with a replacement wiring harness, a black soft top, and a reupholstered black interior. Further modifications include 15″ Superlite wheels, Brembo drilled and slotted front rotors with four-piston calipers, a front air dam, and a Hurst shifter.
The body is finished in black and is fitted with an aftermarket front air dam, a black soft top, and polished side moldings. Work performed during current ownership is said to include rebuilt door hinges along with the installation of a replacement windshield gasket and brackets, weatherstripping, door latches, and struts for the hood and trunk lid.
Superlite 15″ wheels with black centers and polished lips are mounted with 205/60 Yokohama AS530 tires. The steering rack, tie-rod ends, and wheel bearings were replaced during the refurbishment, and polyurethane bushings are said to have been fitted. Additional brake and suspension work is said to include:
Trued front rotors
Machined rear drums
Rebuilt brake booster and master cylinder
Replacement rear brake shoes, wheel cylinders, and parking brake components
Replacement front sway bar, shocks, and springs
The seat frames were reportedly sandblasted and repainted before being fitted with replacement foam and black vinyl covers. Insulation was added to the floors, the window lifter assemblies were rebuilt, and the carpeting, door panels, pedals, window cranks, and glovebox door are also said to have been replaced. Equipment includes a Hurst shifter with a cueball knob, and latch-and-link lap belts.
A three-spoke Momo steering wheel sits ahead of a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline and auxiliary gauges. The gauge trim rings and oil pressure gauge were replaced, and the seller notes the 140-mph speedometer is not functional. The five-digit odometer shows 30k miles.
The aluminum-block Buick 215ci V8 was installed during prior ownership and was reportedly overhauled and bored .010″ over by the seller. A valve job is said to have been performed, and the engine was reassembled with a rebuilt starter along with a replacement water pump, timing chain, rear main seal, oil pump, and wiring harness. Additional components include the following:
Edelbrock carburetor and mesh air cleaner
Crower camshaft
Manley piston rings
Crank scraper
Summit Racing Multi-Spark Capacitive Discharge ignition box
PerTronix Ignitor electronic ignition
Offenhauser ribbed valve covers
Holley electric fuel pump, adjustable fuel regulator, and stainless steel lines
Four-into-one headers
Dual exhaust
The replacement Tremec T5 five-speed manual transmission was reportedly refreshed and fitted with a machined flywheel and a replacement pressure plate, disc, and hydraulic throw-out bearing. The clutch master cylinder was rebuilt, the u-joints replaced, and the driveshaft re-balanced.
