This 1980 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans Am was sold new at Bill Sullivan Pontiac in Arlington Heights, Illinois, and was acquired by the seller in 2014 and imported to Canada. The car is finished in Ontario Gray over black velour and is powered by a turbocharged 301ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional equipment includes the Special Performance Package, removable T-top roof panels, air conditioning, an aftermarket AM/FM cassette stereo, power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and 15″ cast aluminum wheels.
The car left the factory in Ontario Gray and was reportedly repainted in the mid-2000s under previous ownership. Exterior features include a Trans Am hood graphic, a reverse hood scoop, a front air dam, an integrated rear spoiler, quad headlights, and removable glass T-top roof panels.
Polished 15″ cast aluminum wheels wear chrome center caps with Firebird crests and are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle GT tires. The Special Performance Package added power-assisted disc brakes at all four corners as well as an upgraded suspension.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black velour cloth joined by a black vinyl dashboard and door panels. Engine-turned trim accents the dashboard, and additional interior equipment includes air conditioning, an aftermarket AM/FM cassette stereo, and power windows.
The three-spoke Formula steering wheel fronts a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline and an inset clock, an 85-mph speedometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level. An aftermarket boost gauge is installed below the dashboard, and the third boost light on the factory hood-mounted turbo boost gauge does not work. The five-digit odometer shows 41k miles.
The 4.9-liter V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor along with a Garrett TB305 turbocharger and was rated at 210 horsepower and 345 lb-ft of torque when new. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. An aftermarket cat-back exhaust was reportedly installed under previous ownership.
The window sticker shown above displays initial delivery to Bill Sullivan Pontiac Inc of Arlington Heights, Illinois, and lists colors, equipment, and a total manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $9,869.52.
