This 1981 Jeep CJ-5 was reportedly acquired by the seller from the original owner in 2009, and a subsequent refurbishment involved a repaint in dark red metallic, a reupholstered black interior, and the installation of a replacement 304ci V8 which is mated to a three-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Equipment includes a Surrey top, removable doors, an aftermarket stereo, a lift kit, and 15″ alloy wheels with 33″ tires.
The body has been refinished in dark red metallic with gray accents and Laredo lettering on the hood. Features include a black surrey top, removable vinyl-covered doors, chrome bumpers with tow hooks, wide-set side mirrors, and a folding windscreen.
Silver 15″ turbine alloy wheels are mounted with 33×12.5 Yokohama Geolander A/T-S tires showing 2010 and 2013 date codes, and a covered full-size spare is mounted to the rear of the truck. The seller reportedly had the steering box rebuilt and replaced the leaf springs, shocks, brake booster, calipers, and master cylinder.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench that have been reupholstered in black vinyl with gray accents. Equipment includes an aftermarket Axxera CD stereo, a heater, and Jeep-branded rubber floor mats.
Instrumentation is located in the center of the dash and includes a 6k-rpm tachometer, an 85-mph speedometer with inset fuel level and coolant temperature gauges, and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure and voltage. The odometer shows 68k miles.
The replacement 304ci V8 was reportedly overhauled by Kim Barr Racing Engines of Garland, Texas, and it was installed by the seller in 2012. Modifications include an Edelbrock carburetor, an RV camshaft, and MSD ignition with an HEI distributor. The fuel system, tank, and lines were replaced and are connected to an electric fuel pump. The previously installed 4.2L straight-six engine is included in the sale.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a rebuilt Borg-Warner T18 four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case.
