The Z28 Indy 500 Commemorative Edition was limited to a production of 6k cars which were finished in silver with blue lower cladding and Indy 500 Pace Car graphics. Additional exterior details include a lightweight fiberglass hood with functional air ducts, removable glass roof panels, a front air dam, a rear spoiler, and quad headlights. A HPOF (Historic Preservation of Original Features) Tab from the 2014 AACA National Meet is located on the grille.
Silver 15” alloy wheels wear Z28 center caps and are mounted with 215/65 Goodyear Eagle GT white-letter tires and sport gray factory valve stem caps. This car is said to be one of 600 examples fitted with optional J65 power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes for the 1982 model year.
The interior features silver vinyl-covered seats with blue velour inserts along with matching door panels and carpeting. Amenities include Indy 500 badges, six-way Lear-Seigler manually-adjustable seats with Z28 insignias, tinted windows, air conditioning, an electric hatch release, an electric rear window de-fogger, power windows and locks, and a Delco AM/FM cassette stereo.
A three-spoke steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 14k miles.
The optional LU5 twin-TBI ‘Cross Fire Injection’ 5.0-liter V8 was rated at 165 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque when new, and sends power to the rear wheels through a 3-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The window sticker indicates initial delivery to Larry Murphy Chevrolet along with standard and optional equipment and a total price of $15,153.74.
