The RX-8 was designed under Ikuo Maeda, son of the lead designer for the first-generation RX-7, and features a pair of rear-hinged “freestyle” rear doors. This example is finished in Brilliant Black (A3F), and the seller notes a blemish on the top edge of the aluminum hood.
Factory 18″ five-spoke wheels are wrapped in 225/45 Cooper Zeon RS3-G1 tires that were installed in 2019. The suspension features double wishbones at the front and a multi-link design out back, and the rear shocks were replaced in 2020. Curb rash is evident on the wheels.
The interior features black leather upholstery with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include a power sunroof, heated seats with a power adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry, xenon headlights, cruise control, a Bose audio system, and navigation. The left door handle and passenger-side crash pad were recently replaced.
A leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel fronts instrumentation that consists of a central 9k-rpm tachometer, a digital speedometer, and gauges for temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The seller states that the coolant level warning light remains illuminated. The digital odometer indicates 38k miles.
A remanufactured two-rotor 1.3-liter Wankel engine was installed in September 2020 at 36k miles by Rotary Doctor of Neosho, Missouri. Factory-rated output was 232 horsepower and 159 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The battery was replaced in 2020.
