This 2011 Mazda RX-8 is one of 132 R3 examples sent to the US in its final model year and is finished in Velocity Red Mica over black and gray upholstery. Power is provided by a 1.3-liter Renesis rotary engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The R3 package included aerodynamic bodywork, Bilstein shock absorbers, 19″ forged alloy wheels, and Recaro front seats. The car was sold new by Mazda of Wesley Chapel, Florida, and later spent time in North Carolina, where it was acquired by the seller in February 2021. Maintenance in preparation for the sale consisted of replacing the spark plugs and tires as well as an oil change.
The car is finished in Velocity Red Mica (27A), and R3-specific aerodynamic elements include a special front bumper cover, a front splitter, side skirts, and a rear wing.
Forged 19″ wheels wear 225/40 Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position tires that were mounted in August 2021. The R3 package included suspension upgrades such as Bilstein shocks and a more rigid front crossmember.
Access to the 2+2 cabin is gained through standard front and smaller rearward opening “suicide” doors. The cabin features Recaro front seats upholstered in black and gray with red stitching along with matching door panels and black carpets. Additional features include a Bose surround sound stereo, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, alloy pedals, and RX-8 branded floor mats. The seller notes deformation of the driver’s seat outer side bolster.
Instrumentation consists of a central tachometer with an inset digital speedometer along with gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 33k miles.
The 1.3-liter two-rotor Renesis II Wankel engine was rated at 232 horsepower when new. A front strut brace is visible in the engine bay. The spark plugs were replaced and an oil change using Idemitsu rotary-specific oil was performed in preparation for the sale by Autohaus Import Service in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
