Vehicle Description 1930 REO Flying Cloud $15,000 Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is excited to offer this fascinating 1930 REO Flying Cloud Model 20 Sedan, a rare and elegant piece of American automotive history from one of the most respected independent manufacturers of the pre-war era. Finished in a handsome maroon and black two-tone color combination, this Flying Cloud presents with the dignified styling, craftsmanship, and road presence that helped establish REO as a premium automobile builder during the golden age of motoring. Founded by automotive pioneer Ransom E. Olds after his departure from Oldsmobile, REO automobiles earned a reputation for quality engineering and upscale appointments. By 1930, the Flying Cloud lineup represented the company's flagship passenger cars, featuring advanced styling and impressive performance for the era. The Model 20 rode on a 120-inch wheelbase and was powered by REO's smooth-running 268 cubic inch inline-six engine, factory rated at approximately 80 horsepower and paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. Opening the hood reveals a well-preserved inline-six engine compartment that retains much of the authentic character enthusiasts appreciate in a true pre-war automobile. The engine's long cast-iron block, period-correct appearance, and simple mechanical design showcase the engineering philosophy of an era when durability and reliability were paramount. An alternator conversion enhances drivability while preserving the vintage charm. Inside, the spacious cabin offers comfortable broadcloth-style seating and the upright driving position that defined luxury automobiles of the late 1920s and early 1930s. Large windows provide excellent visibility, while the expansive passenger compartment makes this sedan ideal for touring, parades, shows, and vintage motoring events. The wood-grain style interior trim and period-correct appointments create an authentic atmosphere that transports occupants back nearly a century. The exterior styling is unmistakably classic. Sweeping black fenders, artillery-style wheels, a tall radiator shell, large headlamps, and graceful body lines give this Flying Cloud a commanding presence. The maroon bodywork contrasts beautifully with the black fenders and running boards, creating the sophisticated appearance expected from a premium American automobile of its time. Rarely seen today, REO automobiles occupy a special place in automotive history. Collectors appreciate their limited production numbers, distinctive styling, and connection to one of the industry's founding innovators. Whether displayed at concours events, antique automobile gatherings, or enjoyed on leisurely drives, this 1930 REO Flying Cloud Model 20 offers a unique opportunity to own a true survivor from the dawn of American luxury motoring. Examples from this era are seldom encountered, making this an appealing addition to any pre-war collection.
