1938 American Bantam Roadster

DescriptionRare 1938 American Bantam with Custom Wood Boat!! The American Austin Car Company was founded in 1929 in Butler Pennsylvania, with the intention to assemble and sell a version of the Austin Seven car, called the American Austin. After some initial success, the Great Depression set in, and sales fell off to a point that production was suspended. In 1934, the company filed for bankruptcy after producing approximately 20,000 vehicles. In 1935, Roy Evans, as former Austin salesman, purchased the company out of bankruptcy and reorganized under the name American Bantam. A series of changes was made to the American Austin including a far more appealing exterior designed by Alexis de Sakhnoffsky. This American Bantam is an outstanding example finished in a striking two-tone red and white scheme that accentuates the art deco styling. This car is ONE of 512 roadsters built in 1938 and is outfitted with rear-mounted spare tire, fold down windshield and white wall tires. The custom wood boat was hand built to proper scale for the size of the car and is outfitted with an early 1939 5hp two-cylinder Evinrude Light Twin Outboard (ELTO) motor. This single passenger hardwood boat rides on a custom trailer. Own one of the original compact cars!! Read More
