Description
This 1939 Ford Model 91A Deluxe Coupe is one of the best examples available today. The restoration was completed in the early 1980s, the car has held up to an incredible level over the past 40 years. The car was rotisserie restored, with all metalwork completed using lead, as was correct for the period, rather than modern body filler. It has always been garage-kept and was previously part of two significant flathead Ford collections, those of Nick Alexander and later Ron Thorne.
Despite its significant ownership history, the current owner has continued to return the car to its original configuration. Recent work includes sourcing a correct tool kit and air cleaner, replacing both the front and rear leaf springs, and rebuilding the distributor, fuel pump, and coil. All four tires were also replaced with new Firestone whitewalls. More than $4,500 has been spent on recent maintenance to ensure the car drives and functions as impressively as it looks.
The car also features several desirable factory and period options, including a factory radio with retractable windshield-header antenna, dual side mirrors, and the distinctive chrome “Spyder” hubcap covers, a rare one-piece hubcap design for these cars.
The horn, lights, wipers, and radio all function as they should. Included with the car are restoration photographs, the correct tool kit, jack, and receipts documenting the car’s history and recent work.
