Description
This 1940 Dodge D14 Deluxe sedan was delivered new to the People’s Garage Inc. of Bedford, Virginia, on May 2, 1940, and it was purchased by the current owner in April 1977 and placed into his collection. The car is finished in gray over tan cloth upholstery, and power comes from a 218ci L-head inline-six mated to a three-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes hydraulic drum brakes, body-color 16″ steel wheels, an amber-lens driving light, turn signals, a centrally hinged hood with a ram ornament, rear-hinged rear doors, and a Mopar Deluxe heater and defroster. This D14 Luxury Liner sedan is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner at no reserve as part of the John C. Mesloh Collection with original sales documents, a bill of sale from the owner’s 1977 purchase, and transferable New York registration. Dodge’s “Luxury Liner” cars were restyled for 1940 and featured sealed-beam headlights inset in the fenders as well as a ram hood ornament. The D14 sedan was the automaker’s most popular model for 1940, with 84,976 examples produced. This example was delivered from the factory in Gunmetal and was repainted under previous ownership. Additional details include chrome bumpers with overriders, an amber-lens driving light, turn signals, a centrally hinged hood, running boards, rear-hinged rear doors, a locking fuel cap, and reverse lights.
