Description
This 1943 BMW R75 sidecar rig is one of approximately 16,500 examples produced for use by Germany’s armed forces during the Second World War. It is powered by a 745cc opposed-twin linked to a four-speed transmission with a reverse gear, a dual-range transfer case, and a lockable differential housed in the rear drive unit that splits power between the motorcycle’s rear wheel and the sidecar wheel. All three of the rig’s interchangeable 16″ wire-spoke wheels are equipped with drum brakes, and the bike features a telescopic fork, black rubber Drilastic seats, a fuel-tank-mounted air cleaner assembly, dual Graetzin Sa carburetors, and a two-into-one exhaust system, while the single-seat Royal-Seitenwagen sidecar features a leaf-spring chassis, a blackout light, a storage trunk, and external mounts for an ammunition box and a water can. Imported to the US from the Netherlands in 2015 and purchased by the selling dealer in September 2026, this R75 rig is now offered with service records and a clean New Jersey title. The rig features an integrated two-wheel drive system that transmits power through a single-plate dry clutch and a four-speed gearbox with a dual-range transfer case. Gear selection is made conventionally with a foot lever on the left or with a hand lever on the right side of the fuel tank, the latter of which is mounted alongside a separate range-selection lever that engages either road ( Straße ) or off-road ( Gelände ) gearing. In road mode, four forward gears and one reverse are available, while off-road mode provides three forward gears and one reverse. The drivetrain is completed by an enclosed driveshaft and a crown wheel limited-slip differential with a manual locking mechanism that is engaged using a lever by the rider’s right leg.
