1948 Chrysler Windsor

DescriptionOffered on consignment is a 1948 Chrysler Traveler, one of the more distinctive postwar wood-bodied wagons produced as part of Chrysler’s Town & Country line. Fewer than 9,000 Travelers were built for the 1948 model year, and surviving examples have become increasingly hard to find, especially in usable, driver-quality condition. This example has been fitted with a GM Goodwrench 350 V8 and automatic transmission, providing a more accessible driving experience compared to the original drivetrain. The engine is equipped with an Edelbrock aluminum intake, Edelbrock carburetor, billet accessory brackets, and an electric cooling fan. The setup offers straightforward serviceability and parts availability, making it a practical choice for someone who wants to drive and enjoy the car regularly. The exterior presents well, with chrome trim in very good condition throughout. It sits on American Classic whitewall tires that suit the car’s period look. A Fulton sun shield is mounted above the windshield, adding a classic accessory that complements the car’s styling. The rear-hinged doors are a standout feature and always draw attention. The odometer reads 56,027 miles. The wood roof slats will need to be replaced, which the current owner has elected to leave for the next owner to address. For a capable handyman or carpenter, this is a straightforward project and an opportunity to bring the car to the next level cosmetically. This is a solid opportunity to own a rare and recognizable Chrysler wagon with a usable drivetrain and strong visual presence, whether for local shows, weekend driving, or continued improvement.
