Description
This 1948 Jaguar Mark IV is a left-hand-drive Drophead Coupé that spent time in Canada before it was purchased by the seller in 1983. The car is finished in burgundy over red leather upholstery, and power comes from a 3.5-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes twin SU carburetors, mechanically actuated four-wheel drum brakes, 18″ painted wire wheels, a beige three-position soft top with landau bars, fog lamps, rear-hinged doors, trafficators, front bucket seats, and wood interior trim. Service performed in preparation for the sale included rebuilding the carburetors, cleaning the fuel tank, and installing replacement spark plugs. This Mark IV is now offered with literature, service records, and a Massachusetts title in the seller’s wife’s name. The 3.5-liter model was initially produced by SS Cars between 1938 and 1940 before being reintroduced after the company’s name change to Jaguar as part of the Mark IV range. This example’s drophead coupe bodywork is said to have been previously finished in black, and it underwent a color change to burgundy under previous ownership. Equipment includes Lucas tri-bar headlights, bumper-mounted fog lamps, a “leaper” hood ornament, fender-mounted side mirrors, a tilt-out windshield, rear-hinged doors, trafficators, and a beige three-position convertible top with landau bars. Areas of paint loss and other imperfections in the finish can be seen in the gallery.
