1948 Studebaker M5 1/2 Ton Truck

Description 1948 Studebaker M5 1/2 Ton Truck – In 1941, Studebaker decided to stop trying to compete against the likes of Mack, Diamond-T, and Autocar for the sale of heavy-duty trucks. Instead, the company focused on producing a more complete line of light- and medium-duty trucks that were more likely to find customers through its large network of small, rural dealerships. Attractive and modern, the cab employed some body panels from the 1941 Champion passenger car, as well as its basic dashboard. The hood, fenders (interchangeable front to rear on each side), and grille, however, were unique to the trucks. The M series consisted of the ½-ton M5, 1-ton M15, and 1½-ton M16. While Studebaker did a fantastic job creating an iconic truck, this beautiful example takes it to a whole new level. Much of the late-40s looks are present but just about all areas have been dramatically improved over stock. A quick glimpse and you immediately notice the color-matched bumpers and grille, the improved stance, custom wheels, and even the custom-built tonneau. The interior is equally as clean with custom stitched door panels/seat, classic instrument gauges and a comfortable wood wheel. Arguably, the most impressive view is under the hood. The shaved firewall and inner fenders highlight an impressive V8 topped with a Tuned-Port Injection (TPI) Manifold, custom script valve covers, and a pair of headers that allow this beauty to really breathe. As you will see in the photos, the underside is as clean as the rest of the truck. A run down of features includes; LT1 350 V8, Auto, A/C, Front Disc Brakes, Power Steering, Wood Wheel, Custom Interior, Custom Tonneau, Electric Fan, Tinted Glass, Tilt Steering, Chrome Mirrors, Rollpan Rear Bumper, 17″ American Racing Chrome Wheels, and Thick Tires! In a car show world filled with Chevys, Fords and a few Dodges, it’s great to see a custom Tangerine Orange Studebaker that really stands out from the crowd.
